Statistics to dimension the present and potential problem
|
There are diagnosis tests and clinical studies realized by allergist that have shown the dust mite allergy are the most common allergy among asthmatic people and an important “root cause” for the development of asthma in little kids. Also, studies have determined that at least 10% of the human population, and approximately 80% of which suffer allergies, are reactive to the proteins that are in the dust mite body parts and excrements [10]. Also, the dust mite proteins are the number one cause of the permanent allergic rhinitis [10].
Another important and worrisome thing: "This is the first time we have scientific evidence that early exposure to high levels of foreign proteins, the dust mite being prominent, greatly increases the risk of asthma,'' said Dr. Thomas A.E. Platts-Mills, a co-author of the study published recently in the New England Journal of Medicine. In other words, the study reinforces the growing belief that asthma can be triggered by proteins like ones found in dust mites.
Other impressive point: According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the under ceiling air (houses and buildings) can be in up to 100 times more contaminated than the external air[12][13]. This under ceiling air contamination is due to dust mites, mould, virus and bacteria, among others contaminants.
